Mountain Region Challenge - Devils Fork State Park Traditional Cache
Ninja Reviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.
Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

This cache is part of the SC State Park Geocache Challenge. You are looking for a 50-cal ammo box hidden along the Bear Cove Trail.
A mountain spring-fed lake encompassed by the Jocassee Gorges, waterfalls accessible only by boat and some of the best South Carolina trout fishing are all part of the allure of Devils Fork State Park.
The land around 7,500-acre Lake Jocassee remains mostly undeveloped and the only public access point to the lake is through Devils Fork. Four mountain streams and several waterfalls feed into the lake, making it cooler than others, and the unusually clear water is a haven for scuba divers and swimmers. During the spring months, hikers on the two trails are treated to sightings of the endangered Oconee bell wildflower.
Overnight guests can stay in a fully-furnished villa or in one of two campgrounds located near the lake.
This cache is part of the South Carolina State Park Service Geocache Challenge. There are 4 regions within the challenge, with different numbers of geocache locations in each region. In each posted cache, there is a hint, a number that will be used in the formula given in the description for the regional mystery cache, leading you to the final cache in each region, 4 in total. And in that final mystery cache in each region is also a hint, a number that will be used in the formula given in the description for the “Finale cache”, providing the coordinates to reach the final cache, located at Sesquicentennial State Park which entitles the first 5 finders to a special reward. But to do this, you will have to have traveled to all 47 parks, and have found all of the caches! Good luck and most of all, have fun!
