Geocache Description:

The Philli's annual camping meet is back at Cheddar, Somerset,
and will be continuing with its CHRISTMAS theme.
So book the date in your diaries for:
"A Wild (West) Christmas 2012"
NOW!

Essential dates for your diary
22nd to 24th June 2012

After our very successful meet there last year we have decided to book back in at Broadway House Holiday Park, situated in Somerset on the edge of the picturesque Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and only a short walk (1 mile) to the centre of the picturesque village of Cheddar. The site is well maintained with spacious pitches, and all have electric and water. There are  excellent facilities including modern heated toilets and washrooms/showers, laundry facilities, a well stocked convenience shop, a licensed bar and restaurant serving reasonably priced food, children’s play areas for all ages including a large adventure playground, skate park, competition standard BMX track, swimming pool and crazy golf.  The site is easily accessible by road just a few miles from M5 junction 22, and for those using public transport the nearest station is Weston-Super-Mare with buses from Weston-Super-Mare passing the park entrance. For more information on local transport it might be worth checking out the Cheddar Village website.
For those of you who do not like the idea of camping (I can't understand why), the site does have a number of self catering chalets and caravans that you can book.

The obligatory BBQ will be held on the Saturday evening which will have a Christmas theme (start sorting out your costumes now) to which all smiley hunters are welcome. I will add details for this as we develop and formalise our plans, but do expect lots of silliness (muddy legs department).
Please bring your own food for the BBQ and if you can, a BBQ, although if you can't manage a BBQ there will be plenty around that you will be able to share.

If you intend to come to this event please can you log your intentions below, and please include whether you are camping, which nights you are camping, how many adults/children, type of unit and approx size, i.e. 8 man tent, 14ft caravan, 20ft motorhome etc. and if you have any pitch preferences.

Program
The program is at a very early stage of development, but as it develops we shall add details
below and send out announcements.

The timings are not hard and fast, and could possibly be a little late if things overrun
but are unlikely to be early.

Friday
From 12:00pm Arrive and set up camp
Please book in at site reception. Reception will book you in and direct you to the camping area where you will be allocated your pitch.
5:00pm Christmas Eve Flash mob event
We are organising an additional event for Christmas Eve in the centre of Cheddar - "A Christmas Flash", so if you would like to take part in this make sure that you get to camp in plenty of time.
7:00pm Meet & greet - With supper and mulled cider at camp HQ. We do have a few disposable cups bowls and forks but if you can it would be helpful if you could please bring your own.
Get to know the cacher' competition
Some 'willing' cachers will be given a number card. The aim for the rest of the cachers will be to discover who has a number, and to record it on the sheet provided. The cacher with the most 'finds' recorded on their sheet will be the winner (or put into a draw in the case of a tie) for the prize.
Saturday
8:00am Series of 26 new caches due to go live on GC.com. Print outs of cache details will be available from this time and GPX files will be also be available, although cannot guarantee 8:00am.

Boxing Day Brunch
For Boxing Day we are organising a meet and greet and eat by Cheddar Reservoir, an opportunity for those on there way home to grab another smiley and to say farewell to friends old and new.

If you need to get in touch with us for whatever reason you can contact us on our mobiles on:

John (Mad H@ter) - 07952 060660
   Sue (muddy legs) - 07985 218590

Booking
We have again negotiated what we believe to be an excellent all inclusive price of £15/night/pitch, with no extra charges for awnings, pup tents, dogs, electric etc. We also have exclusive use of three adjoining fields. And for those not keen on the idea of camping there are self catering chalets and caravans available.

Bookings are to be made direct with the site on 01934 742610 and ask for Jan, ensuring that you mention that you are with the Geocaching group and a £7.50 deposit per pitch will be required at time of booking. Not that I anticipate any, but if you do have any problems with the booking please contact me.

As per last year the campsite have asked us to allocate the pitches to campers and we have decided to allocate as many as possible in advance, so if you have any preferences to where you would like to be i.e. active/noisy area, near friends etc. please let us know and where possible we'll do our best to accommodate.

If you click here a map of the camp site with pitch numbers should appear, note that this is not too scale regarding sizes of pitch. To see what it actually looks like click here for Google Maps.

To assist you the following should help to guide your choice:
Pitch 845 Santa's Grotto - ie active/noisy area
Pitches 801 to 811 & 831 to 845 caravans, large trailer tents and small motor-homes
Field 7 larger motor-homes (or anyone else).
Sorry but campsite don't want them beyond field 7 due to slopes and tight turns.
Field 10 has larger pitches and will be a bit quieter, but still close to the action.
