A village in central Angus, situated on the Vinny Water, 6 miles (9.5 km) east of Forfar, Letham was planned in 1788 as a textile village designed to enhance the economy of the Dunnichen Estate owned by the improving laird George Dempster (1732 - 1818). By 1850 the power looms of nearby towns had killed the cottage weaving industry, but it survives today as the largest village in Angus.
This War Memorial stands in Dempster Park, named after the villages founder, George Dempster.
NB - I have checked the co-ords some number of times and mostly they are those listed however they do vary slightly every time I take them for some reason. The biggest difference from the published co-ords that I have seen is N 56.37.898 W 002.46.064 However given that you know its by the War Memorial and along with the clue the co-ords almost aren't needed... Good luck!
