Nestled just after Hanukkah and just before New Years, we would like to celebrate the resurrection of the "Jerusalem's Gates" geocache series.
This series is in memory of somloci, who set up the original, but now archived, "Jerusalem's Gates" series (GC1XRRQ, GC1XRRN, GC1XRRM, GC1XRRK, GC1XRRJ, GC1XRRH, GC1XRRG, GC1XRRF, GC1XRRE). His untimely passing was a tragedy for the entire Geocaching community.
Geo-event Details:
-----------------------
When: 1pm on Friday, 30 Dec 2011.
(the series geocaches will become available for printing / loading into you GPSr on 0000 GMT that day)
Where: Just outside of the Jerusalem Old City Walls. Between Jaffa Gate and Mount Zion (see coordinates at the top of the page).
What: Let's get together, have a picnic, and tell geocaching stories. Kids are welcome.
Food: We will be providing humus (both kosher and from the old city), pitas, drinks and other treats. Please bring 15 NIS per person to defray the costs. Alternatively, you are welcome to bring a dish of your own.
PLEASE WRITE ON YOUR RSVP IF YOU'RE BRINGING MONEY OR YOUR OWN DISH, AND IF THE LATTER - WHAT IS IT
Parking: Finding parking near the old city is not trivial. There's a small metered parking lot near Zion gate that usually has spaces (both nearby and cheap/free). However, if it's full, you may have no choice but to go to the Mamila underground parking facility. See waypoints below.
Rain date: If it will rain on the day of the event, we will postpone it. Please check back at this page, on the day of the event, to see if there are any announcements to this effect.
Note: Though this location was selected as a good starting point for the new "Jerusalem's Gates" geocaches. Don't miss Silverwater's nearby "South West Corner of an Old Old Wall" (GC19CFV), and aviram_c's "Tower of David" (GC39EC1).
