L’église du sacré-cœur :
Elle s’élève dans l’ancien quartier des Mariniers. Elle est le Symbole des quartiers bas de la ville, endroit longtemps marécageux et populaire. L’église actuelle à remplacé L’église Saint-Nicolas devenue insalubre. La première pierre est posée le 8 avril 1844 grâce à la volonté de l’abbé Martinet. L’architecte Esmonnot présente un projet mais c’est finalement celui de Lassus qui est retenu. Le projet s’inspire de l’architecture gothique du XIIIe siècle. Sa façade en est caractéristique, avec deux flèches qui encadrent la partie centrale dans laquelle s’ouvre un portail surmonté d’un étage de galerie et d’une rosace. Ce premier édifice Dédié au Sacré-Cœur de Jésus est inauguré en 1881.

The church of the sacred heart:
It is located in the former district of the Mariniers (Bargemen). It has been the Symbol of the low districts of the city for a long time, for it was a swampy and popular place. The current church replaced the church St Nicholas that had become unhealthy. The first stone was erected on April 8th, 1844 thanks to the will of abbot Martinet. The architect Esmonnot presented a project but it was finally the one of Lassus who was choosen. The project was inspired by the Gothic architecture of the XIIIth century. Its facade is very characteristic, with two arrows which frame the central part in which opens a gate topped by a floor of gallery and by a rose window. This first building Dedicated to the Sacred-heart of Jesus has been inaugurated in 1881.
