Is it to keep us out, or...? Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

chaosmanor: As reported by TOCowboy and Mountain Cat, this one has disappeared. It is just over nine years old, so it had a good run, despite only 38 Finds. Not only is the fence that was here back then now gone, but the step under which this sat is in poor shape, and the slope is crumbling.

Geocache Description:

is it just to play with our heads a little? [239/207]

We saw this while heading to the solved location for the nearby puzzle cache. Sorry about the overlapping icons, but there isn't much help for it.

There are a number of these pieces of fence scattered along the roads in the Santa Monicas, and elsewhere. Most of the time, there is just one piece of fence, like the one here, connected to nothing but the ground at its base.

Was there more fence, once upon a time? If you look at the satellite shot, you can see a path of some sort leading to the east from this spot. When you get to the coordinates, if you look a little to the left of the fence, you can see a wooden step, and a couple of more lower down the bank. Was there a home down there, years ago?

PLEASE DO NOT GO DOWN THE BANK!!! It is very crumbly and there is no need to investigate the area. Excessive stomping around will just increase erosion. The cache can be reached from the level of the fence, although you will need to kneel down to retrieve it. The top step is secure, but a bit shaky, so please don't stand on it.

Good luck! Have fun
