Geocache Description:

Accessible from N1, but remember safety first. Reccomended route: take the offramp off the N1, and proceed via the waypoint. Ideal is on a dirt road parallel to the highway.

This cache is located near a few camping sites, and contains some guidelines for new campers. The purpose, therefore, is to help cachers/campers enjoy both hobbies. Firstly, in order to go camping, one needs a vehicle to get you there. Usually any vehicle would do, but a vehicle with space, or that can pull a trailer/caravan is reccommended since you COULD, and probably will, be bringing a lot of equipment. We usually go with a car, but some would reccommend an SUV, or 4X4, or the likes. It all depends on where you go camping... Secondly, you would need accomodation. Most camping sites have designated stands, and there you could usually park anything from a small dome tent, to a big caravan. When buying/borrowing a tent, be on the lookout for something that can withstand strong winds and a lot of rain, if you are going away for a weekend or longer. The manufacturers usually put some indication of the abilities/features on the tent. Then there is the trailer-that-converts-into-a-tent/caravan. These guys usually cost a lot of money, but they are convenient and luxurious to an extent, and still give you that camping feeling. Then caravans and socalled Rwcreational Vehicles (RV's) are the top of luxury and convenience. You just park it, set the stabilisers and connect the electricity, and voila. And make sure you have a hammer, broom and a small shovel. Personally, I prefer camping with tents. The next set of items you would need, is sleeping gear. If you go in tents, you could use blow-up matresses, sleeping bags, blankets, sheets, stretchers, camping matresses, pillows, or none of the above. Usually, at least a sleeping bag or blanket is required, as campung usually gets cold. If you go camping, you are going to get hungry and thirsty. Food is selected at the campers choice, but cooking it is the issue. Usually, an open fire (in dedicated areas, please) are used, especially if you are cooking meat (braai). Sometimes, gas is used for cooking, but this usually requires a lot of equipment. It will depend on what you want your convenience to be. Don't forget your cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery and drinking-ware. What you drink, is up to you. But make sure there is enough water for everyone for the duration of the trip. Then, last but by no means the least important, is a medikit. First aid is as important as all the rest. Usually camping sites have a medikit and medic/first aider on site, but it is advised to be prepares as well. These are the most basic items needed for camping. Then, some additional basic items that would significantly increase the experience are: 1. A flashlight, or equivalent 2. Bug repellant 3. Extra tent pegs, rope, tarp, etc. 4. Camera, and extra batteries (for the memories) 5. A GPS to get you there and back 6. Pen and paper, to make lists of things to remember When geocaching, remember the safety of yourself and others. Please do not attempt between sunset and sunrise. FTF to notblonde and T3chnDiver (blunomads)
