I have looked at this spot for years and have actually been on top
of it several times while pursuing other caches. I was doing some
research and discovered that the formation is called "Dune." The
name evokes images of Frank Herbert's great science fiction novel.
I believe, however, that the name comes from the decomposed granite
that resembles sand that makes up much of this hill.
This is about .4 miles from the highway. The total elevation gain
is less than 200 feet. During the summer, you will be able to get
closer. The three terrain probably applies to getting there in the
winter when this was placed. It will be easier in the summer. The
cache should be findable in moderate snow. It is in a crack on the
north side of the highest group of rocks.
