Climus Radiata
Welcome to Climus Radiatia! We’ve decided to add a bit of fun to the mix of caches in Colonial Knob Scenic Reserve, so we’ve decided a simple tree climbing exercise up a pine tree.
You will need to ascend 8 metres exactly (measured with a plumbob on a string, of all things) up a large Pinus Radiata that is a 20-30 minute walk from the car parking at Spicer Botanical Scenic Reserve, the same location that our cache ‘Respite’ is accessed from, which is not much further on the same track.
For this reason, we’ve decided to rate the cache terrain 4 – it’s a steep walk to the tree just to tire you out, which alone is a terrain 3, and then a climb to the cache. It hopefully isn’t too difficult, but still, it may not be best to attempt in wet weather and some of the branches don’t appeal as ‘safe’ so you should still keep an eye on your footing. If you wish, you could also complete this cache as a daywalk loop around the reserve, picking up P8 Panorama, Final Approach and Colonial Knob Trig whilst you're in the park.
Once you arrive at the cache, see if you can get a look at the views from your new perch - in good weather it's stunning!
The cache is a 1 Litre Sistema placed in a drawstring camouflaged bag, which is tied to a tree branch – do not remove the bag from the tree, simply take the cache out of the bag – and don’t drop it! Inside is a logbook, pen, geocaching notice and a double prize for the FTF. Good luck...
