Geocache Description:

A large kiln in a good state of repair.  Lovely Woodland Trust woods nearby.

The slope here is quite gentle so the kiln extends quite far back and has the appearance of a large bunker from the side.  An informative sign will tell you more about the industrial processes once taking place in this quiet rural setting.

"It was the agrarian revolution of the eighteenth century, when vast areas were enclosed for farm land, that created an enormous demand for lime which would reduce the acidity of the soil and make it more fertile. Vast numbers of lime kilns were built and many farmers had their own."
Industries of Cumbria

The footpath runs past the cache and the kiln.  You can park at either end, or elsewhere.  Hyning Scout Wood is owned by the Woodland Trust and is a a lovely spot to wander through on myriad paths with a variety of trees and rocky outcrops.  Paths can be a bit muddy in wet weather.  One of the oldest local caches is not far away and a good spot for TBs or other travellers, see: GCMQQC.
