I always liked paint by the numbers. They are fun for young kids learning math and colors. Sometimes a hidden secret is revealed when the painting is completed, like when a set of random lines seems to magically turn into a sailboat!

For older children and adults the level of difficulty increases as you use the suggested colors to learn about the nuances of shading and detail using paints. I once painted a deer running through the forest and I must have used 20 shades of green.

In this hi-tech era you can buy a color scanner that can analyze a color and give you the code to create the color digitally for use in many applications.

On a related note, Did you ever wonder why there is Light Blue and Dark blue but no Light Red? How come Pink is its own color?
