History: The block enclosed by contra Santi Apostoli, piazzola San Giuseppe, contra Porton del Luzzo and piazzola Gualdi is the result of the progressive overlay of buildings erected on the ruins of the walls of the earlier Roman theatre. The semicircular shape of the theatre is still visible when moving around the block. A number of later buildings, respectful of the significance of the ancient urban context's architectural tradition, were constructed inside its perimeter. The unique layout of this part of the urban fabric shows the dimensions, spatial qualities, and radial configuration of the cavea(steps)of the ancient theatre, which was oriented towards the north. Indeed, it adapts organically to become coherent with the curved profile of the theatre and maintains a large portion of its internal subdivisions. The importance of the location of the Berga theatre in the context of Roman Vicenza was therefore faithfully maintained in later centuries by the building erected on its ancient ruins, which are illustrated in imortant drawings by Andrea Palladio.
L'isolato compreso fra contrà Santi Apostoli, piazzola San Giuseppe, contrà Porton del Luzzo e piazzola Gualdi è il risultato della sovrapposizione progressiva di una serie di edifici e di palazzi sui resti delle strutture murarie del preesistente teatro romano. Precorrendo l'isolato è ancora precepibile la forma dell'intero emiciclo teatrale, all'interno del quale gil edifici successivi si sono aggiunti e inseriti nel rispetto di un'architettura importante e significativa nell'antico contesto urbano. La singolare conformazione di questo settore del tessuto urbano ripropone, infatti, la dimensione, la consistenza spaziale e lo schema radiale della cavea(gradinata) dell'antico teatro, orientata a Nord, si adatta in modo organico e coerente all'andamento curvilineo del suo perimetro e mantiene la partizione interna corrispondenate ad un'ampia porzione dell'edificio scenico. L'importanza della collocazione del teatro di Berga nel contesto della Vicenza romana è pertanto fedelmente replicata nei secoli successivi dagli edifici cresciuti sui resti antichi. Di questi ultimi rimangono importanti disegni di Andrea Palladio.
