Geocache Description:


Please add rocks to the GeoCache to protect it from the elements.
The Santa Ana River Trail offers stunning views at higher elevations. While passing through Mentone, stop at a grocery store and pick up an apple and a banana. There is a great lunch spot with a benched view near funpig66's SART #4 GeoCache (GC118PC). I only brought 2 liters of water with me to cut back on weight. However, do not fill up your water bladder with 2 liters of water. Fill it halfway. Bring a 1 liter bottle of water with you and place in your pack. While sipping away from your straw, it is easy to avoid monitoring your water supply. When you run out of water from your bladder, turn around. You have reached your halfway point. Half of your water is gone. Be careful how much you push yourself. You are not GeoCaching in the city here.
There are several ways to access this GeoCache. I parked my car on Emerald Avenue in Mentone and biked my way up here. Unfortunately, I had a blowout so I had to ditch my bike into a bush and hike. I suggest doing this if you only have one vehicle. After finding the GeoCaches backwards, race down the mountain back to your car. I left my car at noon and returned at 6pm. It took me an hour and a half to hike back down the mountain from SART #3 by funpig66.
My recommendation is to find a GeoFriend and park one car on Newport Avenue. Load up the mountain bikes and drive up to SART #1 by funpig66 (GC118JJ). Strap on your helmet, check your brakes, and feel the rush. You will fly down this trail. I can't wait to return to feed the need for speed.
