Geocache Description:

An easy eight step multi/mystery cache in beautiful downtown Tehachapi.

This is a simple, walking "tour" of the downtown area of Tehachapi. We will take you by some of the Tehachapi sites to find answers so you can claim a find. Don't worry they will be very easy as we will tell you where to find the answers. Make sure you have pen and paper to take notes.

There is plenty of free parking in the area around the posted co-ordinates. We encourage you to take the "tour" on foot or bicycle but you could drive. Get out and enjoy our little town.

1. The Historic Tehachapi Loop Mural - What year was the Tehachapi Loop completed?

Now head south to F Street and turn left. Keep going and you will find the Blacksmith Shop Mural.

2. Red Front Blacksmith Shop Mural - What year is associated with Fredrick Fickert's brand?

Continue down F Street until you reach Green Street, look to your right.

3. People of the Mountains Mural - What is the name of the Indian tribe shown here?

You will then continue down F Street, note the Monolith mural as you go by. Just before Robinson Street you will see the next mural on the right.

4. The Legend of Avelino Martinez - Which Tehachapi Ranch did Mr. Martinez work at?

Now you will head north up Robinson Street to Tehachapi Blvd. You will turn right and head to the Apple Shed Restaurant to look at the mural on the side of this building. Be sure to stop in for a meal or some yummy fudge or to check out the interesting gift items.

5. T-Hacha-P Mural - What type of fruit trees are highlighted on this mural?

Head west back down Tehacahapi Blvd towards the Water Tower. You will pass the Centennial Mural on your way. There is a little park here with several things to look at, check out Venturi's Arrastra, The Water Tower, the Street Dance Mural across the street and the Railroad Plaque to the left of the tower.

6. Railroad Park & Street Dance Mural - What is the date that the Southern Pacific Railroad arrived in the Tehachapi Valley? (find on the plaque to the west of the Tower)

Continue west on Tehachapi Blvd. until you reach the recently restored Train Depot. Be sure to visit the museum and hopefully you will see a train go by. Be sure to wave! While at the Depot be sure to note the precision of those responsible for distances.

7. How far is it to New Orleans?

For the final stage and to log your find you will need to insert some of those answers into the coords to come up with the exact location of the hidden cache.

N 35 07.7cd
W 118 26.yz2

From your answers you should be able to fill in the letters with numbers to complete the final coords:

Question 1 = last digit of answer into "c"
Question 2 = second digit of answer into "y"
Question 6 = from the date, use the month to fill in "z"
Question 7 = use the 10th from mileage to fill in "d"

As you walk towards the final stop to log your find, there will be a couple of more murals you might want to note. One is in Centennial Plaza and the other on the front of the Hitching Post Theater.

Happy searching! Thanks for taking the tour! Ya'll come back real soon!
