Geocache Description:

Welcome to Hessville Cemetery. An active cemetery taken care of by Washington Township. This cemetery is also known as Providence Cemetery.

On September 15, 1834, Barnet Henry and Elizabeth Bowman sold 160 square rods of property to the trustees of the Lutheran and Presbyterian congregations for a church and burying ground for $5.00.

In this cemetery is the grave of John Burkhardt (Burket) Sr. who was a bodyguard for George Washington in the Revolutionary War. He died in 1847 and his wife Catherine died in 1862.

Little more is written about this cemetery.

You are looking for a camo'd small lok-n-lok container. Please re-camo container after finding and pick up any litter you might find.

The SQ in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project by the Northwest Ohio Geocachers to distinguish those caches that are set in cemeteries or memorial gardens. This cache is part of that series created by NWOGEO members to highlight cemeteries in the area. Please be respectful of the area, and observe the posted hours, which are sunrise to sunset.
