Geocache Description:

The Raglan Harbour entrance is protected by a bar that is considered by many as dangerous. This cache takes you for a short walk through the dunes past a structure constructed to guide crossings of the Bar.

This large harbour of 33 square km area generates a tidal rip that is respected by the best of mariners, so navigation aids are needed.

As you walk to the cache site, look across to the big triangular beacon structure with red light in the dunes near the beach at S 37° 48.044' E 174° 51.763'.

This Traditional cache replaces a multi (GC18QE6)that took you to the base of this seaward beacon, but had to be archived when a dune restoration programme fenced the beacon off from public access.

This is the most seaward structure of three, the middle structure is on the town foreshore near the fire station, and the inland structure is high on a ridge within the town. To cross the bar safely, you must line up the three beacons.

The final retains the same location near the beach. Enjoy a short walk up the black iron-sand beach past the old WW2 gun emplacement slowly subsiding into the sand on your way to the 400ml Sistema box hidden in the undergrowth.

Bring the family, they will all enjoy this popular beach.

Please carefully re-hide the box, and cover it with sticks and leaf litter. There is a lot of young muggle activity here.
