This lovely picnic spot in Te Hapua Bay also known as scenic Bay or Picnic bay is best accessed by water but can be accessed through bush waking on a DOC track off the Karangahape Road which runs off the Western Bay Rd State Highway 32. It is a long rough walk down to the Beach at Picnic Bay
When approaching this bay by water there are some shallow rocks but plenty of space to pull up a boat onto the sand and enjoy lunch on the beach. The swimming in summer is great and there is always the possibility of catching a trout for lunch. There is a path leading up through the bush to the Karangahape Rd.
The cache is in a small clickclack container with a strip log and some small swaps. There is a pencil but suggest you bring your own pen. It is hidden away from the water’s edge. The climb up the cliff is steep, rocky and can be slippery but is on a rough narrow path. Great care needs to be taken and is not suitable for young children. Older children will enjoy the challenge of the climb.
Please replace and cover
