Geocache Description:

A quick and easy hop out of a vehicle with little bushwhacking and your socks stay dry.

The Bard is Back was created to again place a cache on the grounds of the Stratford Festival Theatre. The previous cache (in a different location) is believed to have been lost during hurricane Irene and subsequent tree removal. Enjoy a visit to a lovely piece of Stratford with beautiful views of the sound. If you have the time, and they are in residence, be sure to say hi and take a few pictures of the resident swans Romeo and Juliette

This cache is suitable for year-round geocaching. Cache can be found in a medium sized lock-n-lock

History
Ground was broken in 1954 and the theatre officially opened its doors in 1955. The 1,500+ seat theatre, with its elegant grounds overlooking the picturesque Housatonic River, has featured such distinguished actors as Katharine Hepburn, James Earl Jones, Paul Newman, Jessica Tandy, Jane Alexander, Hal Holbrook, Roddy McDowall, Nina Foch, Christopher Plummer, Christopher Walken, and Will Geer. Also of note, John Houseman served as its artistic director during the late 1950s.

In February 2005, the Town of Stratford received the deed for the Stratford Shakespeare Festival Theatre from the state of Connecticut.

For the first time, six years ago, the grounds of the theatre played host to free outdoor Shakespeare and entertainment, as organized by concerned Stratford citizens. The summer festival, now two weeks in duration and called Festival! Stratford, has maintained quality arts and entertainment in the grove of the historic theatre property ever since.

Festival! Stratford is held each year for two weeks in the month of August.
