A straightforward offset cache in the Oruru valley.
The Mangonui, Taipa and Oruru valley region was immortalised in the great box office movie success of 2001 - "Back River Road", produced (directed and scripted) by local Peter Tait, starring all time local greats Ray Woolf (as Ray himself), Te Rangi Ruparua (as Marty), Calvin Tuteau (of Dr. Victor Kahu fame in Shortland Street, as Joe), Lena Andraschko and family plus a cast of a mere fraction of thousands. An absolute MUST for all movie buffs. The premiere screening was held at the Swamp Palace theatre, Oruru, and was reported at the the time as being "bigger than Titanic in the Far North".
You haven't seen it? Hard to believe! Don't get anxious however as its available on DVD rental from the Bush Fairy Dairy further up the valley.
At the listed co-ordinates note a nearby structure and in particular the name displayed across the front wall. When this structure was used for its original purpose I gather the river must have been navigatable to about this point in the valley and the production from the factory taken by river to the coast. The house a little further up the road on the opposite side looks as if it could have been the managers house.
To derive the co-ordinates of the final:-
(1) take the listed south co-ordinates and deduct .abc where:-
a = number of letters in 3rd word of displayed name on the structure.
b = number of words in displayed name minus 1.
c = sum of the letters in the 2nd and 6th words of displayed name.
(2) take the listed east co-ordinates and deduct .def where:-
d = number of words commencing with "O"
e = sum of the letters in the 5th and 7th words
f = number of letters in 2nd word .
The cache is a 500ml plastic cylinder with logbook and pen. It has room for small trade items.
