Geocache Description:

Adding to the Sumner County cemetery caches. This cemetery is located on East Harvey approximately 2 blks. East of Woodlawn in Wellington. Cemetery is located in Wellington Township with the Wellington Memorial Mausoleum located near the center of the cemetery.

Prairie Lawn Cemetery and Mausoleum are located within the city limits of Wellington at 1422 E. Harvey Ave. The property for the cemetery was purchased in August 1882 and was given the name Prairie Lawn in February 1883. The overall size of the cemetary is 50+ acres.

On June 12, 1920, the City granted a franchise that sold for $1500.00 to the Kansas-Oklahoma Mausoleum Co. for the construction of a mausoleum in the original ornamental circle. It was to contain about 425 crypts. So that the building would stand for ages, not a particl of wood was used any place in its construction.
It's design is cruciform in shape and Doric in style. The exterior walls are of Bedford Limestone and the interior walls are of Alabama Marble. The doors are of heavy Bronze and leaded glass costing $1000.00 each. The total cost was about $50,000.00.
The first placement was that of a John W. Gaines. A few days later, Capt. L.K. Myers, founder of Wellington, and his son Will, were moved from their original burial place to crypts in the Mausoleum.

You are looking for a camo-taped pill container. It contains a log only, so remember to BYOP. Please show respect to those that are buried here and the property.

Congratulations to crazyturtle for the FTF!!!!
