Adding to the Sumner County cemetery caches. This cemetery is located on the north edge of the Prairie Lawn Cemetery on East Harvey approximately 2 blks. East of Woodlawn in Wellington. Cemetery is located in Wellington Township.
Sumner Memorial Garden is a county owned cemetery adjacent to Prairie Lawn Cemetery in the city limits of Wellington. Entrance is by the West road of Prairie Lawn Cemetery, North to the beautiful rock gate.
In 1963, Mr. & Mrs. Clyde Martin purchased 7 1/2 acres of land adjacent to the North boundary of Prairie Lawn Cemetery. 20% of the sale price of each lot was set aside to provide perpetual care of the grounds. This deed was recorded January 6, 1964. It was replated March 24, 1964. The first burial was that of George Veach, May 12, 1964, age 64 years.
