Geocache Description:

This is a Regular cache comprising of a largish clip and lock Tupperware container. There are several starting points where public footpaths will take you to Craig y Penmaen. The shortest route in is from a parking area(see waypoint) near a chapel just off the Abergeirw c-road above Bronaber. A longer route would be from the Coed y Brenin Vistor Centre car park(pay and display).

The idea behind this cache was to place a cache worthy of being DAEARYDDA’S 50th placed cache. So this location near to the summit of a small and accessible hill but nevertheless impressive hill, rocky and with barely a path, and fantastic views in all directions. In fact it must be pretty well centrally located to and surrounded by the Meirionnydd Mountains (Daearydda’s favourite mountains). You can see every one of the Rhinogydd, Arenig Fawr, The Aran Benllyn, Rhobell Fawr, Maesglasau and Cadair Idris. This location certainly fit our idea of a good cache, which is in a fantastic mountain area that is worth sharing with other Mountain loving Geocachers. The cache itself is more than usual goodies/geoswag with the aim of rewarding Geokids and attracting them to become Mountain Kids. We hope this combination will be ideal for Geocaching parents and their kids.

Original contents:
Disposable Camera (no guarantee it will work!)
Open top VW Beetle model car
Recovery Truck model car
Ball
Shells
Corona key fob
Ceredigion key fob
Silver twist pen
Mobile phone and bottle holder for cycle

Please try to swap items for other items but don’t let the kids leave disappointed if you have no swap, let them pick something.

Even though we think this is suitable cache for kids we have given it a 3 terrain rating mainly because once you leave the track onto the Open Access hillside there is barely a visible path so you need to choose a route through heather, rock and tussock grass. The shortest route is from the north and involves a short steep ascent through heather. From the south an intermittent path from a gate takes you to a col through wet tussock grass and bracken, then heather on the top.

As always it is essential to have strong footwear, warm and waterproof clothing and a compass and map for safe navigation
