Geocache Description:

Welcome to Stittsville...or... welcome to Kanata! It all depends on which way you are headed.

Back in 2002, an environmental study was launched to find out the potential impact of the widening of Hazeldean Road and the addition of a bridge spanning the Carp River. As a result of the eventual modifications, a bridge was built (at a price!) and a four lane road was built to replace the old two laner.

In order to obtain the location of this cache, you will need to answer the questions in the following quiz.  Calculate the digital root of each of the answers  and do the arithmetic.  Substitute the final answers in the following format according to the question to find out the location of the cache:

N45° 17.ABC  W075° 54.DEF

(Note: 22 Jan 12  As a result of feedback I've received in recent days, I have edited the questions a bit to make them less ambiguous.  It seemed that my research did not take into account all that is available out there on the great WWW!)

A) What is the name of the road which crosses over the bridge structure? (do not include the street designation in the DR calculation)

B) The Carp River Bridge is reported to have cost between $4-4.5 million to build. (I know...amazing!!!) There were unexpected problems which caused a delay in the opening of the bridge and extra expense. How many millions did the repair cost? (Luckily, this was paid for by a settlement involving Genivar and two other engineering firms that contributed to the project.)

C) How long is the Carp River Bridge in metres? After figuring out the DR of this number, subtract 3.

D) According to the Ottawa Sun and other media pages, how many inches (though not substantiated…) did the deck of the bridge fall when the supports were removed? ( This is also known as “deck deflection”.)  Subtract 4 from the answer.

E) What is the name of the first person to drive across the bridge at the official opening? Subtract 8 from your answer.

F) The Carp River flows north from Kanata, passes through the town of Carp and empties into the Ottawa River at Fitzroy Harbour. The river takes its name from the sucker fish, called "carpes à cochon" by the French. How long is the Carp River in kilometers? Divide the DR by 2.

You can check your answer for this puzzle on Geochecker.com.

Parking is available at several nearby locations which will become obvious once you've figured out the correct coordinates. Please do not post photos of the cache container in your log.  Pictures of the logbook are OK. And, oh yes, BYOP!

Congratulations to deepdowndawn (with Edgeman10) for being FTF!  Hope your bruise doesn't last too long! :-)
