How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Located along an old rail bed, park and walk to find this one. Durham St. parking is best-high traffic on Sligo Rd.(although you can drive your car onto the head of the trail, and walk too.) In winter, you may meet a snowmobile zipping along this route. It's a theme cache, please read below.

Christmas, what a wonderful time of the year... And usually we treasure a great Canadian Christmas by enjoying all things snowy! We've not geocached in the winter before, but this year the usually snow covered caches are accessible. With only a dusting of snow on the ground, we decided geocaching might be a great way to spend time with family and friends over the holidays. That’s how this geocache came about.

We had friends over for Christmas dinner and had decided to introduce them to geocaching. A few days earlier, the kids and I made homemade Christmas crackers for our Christmas table. We had chosen Canadian theme items to put inside each cracker- only the kids knew the contents inside. At our Christmas meal, we opened the crackers and each of us put our treasure inside this cache. We camouflaged the container together and the kids chose ground zero. We hid the cache together, a week later, while still on Christmas break. This may have to become a new family Christmas tradition!

We hope you will keep to our theme by either trading Canadian items or Christmas items. What do you usually do with the trinkets that you receive in your crackers? After wearing the hat and reading the joke inside, do you render the little toys, decorations etc. “useless.” Why not use those trinkets for geocaching? They would be welcome in this cache!

We hope you have a Merry Christmas and wish you all the best for 2012!
This should be a quick grab and go cache. Happy Holidays and Happy Hunting!
