Geocache Description:

For years I have enjoyed walking through the meadow and urban woodland trails adjacent to the old Bellevue Airport. I suspect many people don't even realize Bellevue had an airport, but it did, and at one time it was quite a busy place. Over the years the open land has been slowly taken over by development, and Bellevue has plans to convert what little land that remains into another soccer field with plastic grass, ending forever the airport legacy.

I thought it would be nice to commemorate the old airport while there is still a small piece of it remaining.

The posted coordinates are for a parking area from which you can see the last remnant of the old airport; a helicopter landing pad (currently used as a basketball court). The cache is not located on the old airport property but it is an easy, pleasant walk from the heliport. To get the coordinates for the actual cache you must research a little airport history and answer the questions below. All information needed to complete your research project can be found at the Abandoned & Little-Known Airfields website.

The airport was founded in 1941, but it didn't open until 19A___B___.

Bellevue Airport was depicted by the October 12, 1959 FAA inspection report as having a single asphalt runway C___D___E___F___ feet long.

By the early 19G___H___'s Bellevue airport was handling 51,000 takeoffs and landings per year.

The airport was closed in J___K___M___N___.

After the airport was closed the site still had a temporary aviation use - a helicopter landing pad. In 2006 the heliport was listed as the "Bellevue Business Park Boeing Company Services Headquarters Heliport” with the airport code of P___Q___WA.

The cache is located at:

N 47 NB.CMN

W 122 HP.EFD
