Opis
Vendar ga, vsaj do zdaj, nihce še ni našel.
vpadov utrjena z obzidjem. Zanigrad je bil v lasti raznih koprskih
plemiških družin.
Pod vasjo je na pokopališcu zanimiva
poznoromanska cerkev Sv. Štefana, ki je postavljena tik nad
prepadom. Prekrita je s kamnitimi plošcami ('škrlami'),
kar ji daje še posebej lep 'kraško-istrski' videz.
Nedeljo,
pasijon, poklon Sv. Treh kraljev in poslednjo sodbo.
Danes hiše samevajo in zaman cakajo nove
sosednjega Dola navzgor in spet obudili življenje v tem
odmaknjenem, toda zelo lepem kraju.
spet ovije v svoj edinstven molk...
Dostop
do tja sta slaba dva kilometra mestoma dokaj strme hoje. Zavzeti
Description
In the past also named
Svanigrad, Xanigrad, Kastel Sarnian or Sarnio, Zanigrad today is an
abandoned village in the southern part of Podgorski Karst, not far
from Zazid. Legend has it that there is a buried treasure in the
vicinity but no one has yet found it, at least until now. A castle
stood there, now a ruin, and the village itself was fortified with
walls at the time of Turkish invasions. Zanigrad was owned by
various noble families from Koper.
On the cemetery under the
village there is an interesting late Romanesque church of St.
Stephen, which is located just above the precipice. It is covered
with stone plates that give it especially nice 'Istrian-karst'
look. There’s a Glagolitic inscription
from 1418 on the church, while the church interior is rich with
frescoes from the 15th century, depicting St. Sunday, Passion,
adoration of the Three Kings and the Last Judgment.
Today houses stand alone,
vainly waiting for new residents that might come following the
white gravel road from the nearby Dol and bring life to this
remote, but very beautiful place. The village comes to life only at
the traditional event "Blessing of Horses," which takes place on
St. Stephen’s day, 26th of December.
A railway line runs past Zanigrad. Many trains with their
occasional noise break the silence for a moment. But when they go
away, Zanigrad again wraps itself in its unique
silence...
Access
Access to Zanigrad is from the
village Dol near Hrastovlje. After Dol the paved road turns into
dirt one that is not in the best condition. You can go there by
car, unless owner is too sensitive about it. One can get to
Zanigrad taking the same route on foot. Distance between two
villages is around two kilometers and the road is quite steep in
places. There are also several hiking trails for avid
hikers.
Cache
The cache is a standard 360
ml Lock & Lock box. In addition to logbook,
pencil and GC note that must remain in the cache, there are also a
few small trading items. For the first finder there’s a small
prize in the form of a FTF badge.
Zanigrad is quite popular
hiking destination so be careful when searching for the cache. Hide
the cache well afterwards to avoid some muggle finding
it.
