Geocache Description:

This cache is located just off state highway one near the Makohine railway viaduct.

I have placed this cache here because the location bears special significance to me.

Ever since I was a young child this photograph has hung on the wall at our house

This photograph is of the Makohine Viaduct in 1902.

It was taken by a world famous panoramic photographer named Melvin Vaniman.Vaniman is famous for being an "Acrobatic Photographer."

He often photographed from hot air balloons, ships mast's, tall buildings and even a home made 30m wooden pole.

The first train crossed the Makohine Viaduct on the 9th of June in 1902.

Ever since construction the Viaduct has been an icon for both train and car travelers.

This picture has been passed down from my mothers side from my at least my great grandfather.

When I was a young child, this photograph always seemed special to me, and whenever we would drive by, my dad would always point out the Viaduct to us.

Now, I feel as well as being special to me, it also presents a historic record of the area, we can see where the road and rivers went as well as what the landscape was like at the time.

The cache is a 400ml camo sistema that is hidden at the end of the field, so creek hopping may be needed

Please shut the gate behind you!

Have fun while taking in the beauty of this structure!
