Orlov Vrh - Reloaded Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

gregorbe: Lokacija ni primerna za zaklad, ker sem tam zadržujejo skupine otrok iz vrtca, zato ga arhiviram.

This location is not appropriate for the Cache, because the place is often visited by group of childrens from the kindergarden, therefore I archieve it.

Geocache Description:

Tam so potem pokopavali do 30. aprila 1945.

-------------------------------------------------------

Orlov Vrh is located just below Šancami, which is a popular point of many walkers. Until recently, most did not even know that this place is one of so many concealed cemeteries from World War II. Relatives if the buried soilders have put a cross in the clearing, which didn't stand long.

Until the Second World War there was no cemetary on the castle. After the capitulation of Italy, the castle was occupied by the Domobranska army. So no wonder that the Domobobran soilder, fallen in Kocevje, were buried there at the 9th December 1943. There were burying soilders till April 30th 1945.

On the feast of All Saints in 1944, there was a big cemetery ceremony. At that time the cemetery was well kept. The graves were placed in two arcs and between the rows was a sandy path and on both sides tere were two wooden pillars and in the middle was a big oak cross.

After the Second World War the cemetery was abandoned and concealed. In 1946 the graves were realocated to an unknown location. Society for the regulation of concealed graves believes that there were buried 180 Domobran soidlers. In the death book, kept at the rectory of St. James, are recorded 140 names. Society has long been committed to regulate cemeteries. After one of the proposals to be put on top Orlov Plecnik's chapel, one of his unrealized works. But for now there is only a modest tiny cross.

From 1994 to the second Sunday after the feast of All Saints' deceased relatives gather in the chapel. St James's parish priest donates Mass for the deceased, then go in procession to the top of the Orlov Vrh, and follows a prayer for the dead.
