Geocache Description:

When: Saturday, February 11, 2012
8:30 am to 11:00 am (You do NOT need to stay for the entire time)
Where: Cahaba River Road Parking Lot
What: A CITO event to clean the Cahaba hiking area.

Suggested "stuff":
- Gloves
- Water
- Hiking Boots and snacks if you plan to help with "Part Two"

Everyone will be responsible for their own trash bags. I would suggest you plan to pack a at least a few plastic bags for the hike. If we have someone with a pickup or large van, we could drop that off and eliminate the return hike. Not need to plan on taking "home" and properly disposing of the items you collect on the river; I have contacted the City and they will properly dispose of it. We will simply need to stack all the debris we collect around the trash cans in the parking lot.

I envision two types of clean up available. Clean up part one will focus on the Parking Lot, surrounding area, and downstream area. Once done, we can then regroup and head upstream collecting all the debris we encounter.

If you can only stay to help with the parking lot area clean up, no problem. The second clean up will have a much more aggressive terrain than the first part of the clean up.

By staging a vehicle at an alternative location, we will be able to remove much more debris from this natural environment.

There are 10 caches hidden along this route and some cache maintenance will be done along the way. (There are many others nearby.) The terrain is rated a three; however, due to the April 29th tornadoes this area might be more aggressive than prior years. We will have to simply decide if we can complete the series at that time.

Anyone interested in making the hike and help with some clean-up of the trail is encouraged to post a will attend as soon as possible.
