Svartvann (Black Lake) is a freshwater lake in western Bærum, a few
hundred meters northeast of Mikkelsbonn. The lake is encircled with
hiking trails (blue-marked), cross-country skiing trails (red
marked) and an unpaved private road. For geocaching, the area is
ideal all year round, accessible also by bicycle and on foot.
Svartvann is relatively secluded and not easily visible from the
trails due to thick vegetation. From Vestmarksetra, Solli (Asker)
and Skoglund (along E-16) the trails to Svartvann are easily
accessible. The area is especially popular in the winter months for
cross-country skiing enthusiasts and their families. The unpaved
road is wide and well prepared, with tracks for both classic and
freestyle XC skiing. And the trails often remain in good condition
well past the Easter holiday. The shortest route to Svartvann is
from the Skoglund parking area, just off the E-16 north of Skui. A
few kilometers from Skoglund, in an easy uphill climb, is the
quaint tourist café, Mikkelsbonn, for many families the half-way
point on their ski trip. Coffee, warm toddy, and cocoa is served,
as well as raisin buns and chocolates in the winter season.
“Tour de Svartvann” is a family-friendly day trip, and
geocaching along the route will provide a short rest-stop for both
young and old alike. Cachen: Most cache boxes along this route,
“Tour de Svartvann,” are small lock & lock type
boxes, with logbook and tradeable items. Please return the box to
the same place you found it. Mikkelsbonn is a little log cabin
ideally placed in the ski trail between Solli in Asker and
Sollihøgda. It is a place many pass by while on a ski trip in
Vestmarka. The cabin is run by the Lions Club Bærum Vest together
with Skiforeningen. There is no seating area inside, but several
benches outside the cabin provide the skier with a well-deserved
resting area. In addition, a lean-to with open fireplace/grill is
available, so take with some hotdogs to grill while warming your
cold hands over the fire. Mikkelsbonn is a place where timber was
burned to produce charcoal used in iron production at Bærums Verk.
