Geocache Description:

A short detour from the main ski trail, Burås is worth a visit. The cache is not at the coordinates given. See below.

Tour de Svartvann #3 Burås

Svartvann (Black Lake) is a freshwater lake in western Bærum, a few hundred meters northeast of Mikkelsbonn. The lake is encircled with hiking trails (blue-marked), cross-country skiing trails (red marked) and an unpaved private road. For geocaching, the area is ideal all year round, accessible also by bicycle and on foot.

Svartvann is relatively secluded and not easily visible from the trails due to thick vegetation.
From Vestmarksetra, Solli (Asker) and Skoglund (along E-16) the trails to Svartvann are easily accessible. The area is especially popular in the winter months for cross-country skiing enthusiasts and their families. The unpaved road is wide and well prepared, with tracks for both classic and freestyle XC skiing. And the trails often remain in good condition well past the Easter holiday.

The shortest route to Svartvann is from the Skoglund parking area, just off the E-16 north of Skui. A few kilometers from Skoglund, in an easy uphill climb, is the quaint tourist café, Mikkelsbonn, for many families the half-way point on their ski trip. Coffee, warm toddy, and cocoa is served, as well as raisin buns and chocolates in the winter season. (See geocache for Mikkelsbonn)

“Tour de Svartvann” is a family-friendly day trip, and geocaching along the route will provide a short rest-stop for both young and old alike.

UPPER BURÅS
The open area lies on the boundary to Lier. The area was most likely cleared by Finnish immigrants and was a summer grazing area for Bjørum farm. It was last used for this purpose in 1904. Kjersti Burås is a well-known name from this area. Kjersti was as strong or stronger than any man - it was said that she carried 120 kg. sack of rye grain from Bærums Verk to her home, all the way knitting socks as she walked. There are ruins from several huts at Upper Burås, among them a fine cellar stone wall.

LOWER BURÅS
200 meters from Upper Burås, Lower Burås lies in Lier.
