This traditional hide is located on the beautiful Maxwell Hall
Park property. This is a small Dry Lock container with log sheets
and a few small items. There are briars and in the summer this
property does have ticks and chiggers.
This facility has hundreds of acres with over 14 miles of well
maintained hiking trails and plenty of wildlife. This cache located
at the start of the trail that leads to the horse trail practice
course. If you walk beyond this hide, you will see a small course
set up with various obstacles. Majority of the trail leading to
this cache is flat and it does make for a pleasant hike. Dogs are
permitted, but must be on a leash at all times. Bicycles and all
forms of motorized vehicles (dirt bikes/ ATVs) are not allowed. A
portable toilet is located in the main parking area. Hiker parking
is available at the Equestrian area entrance at N 38 31.759 W 076
41.946.
This property was once the farm of merchant and tobacco farmer
George Maxwell. The orginal home, called Maxwell Hall, is located
on the oposite side of the park was built in circa 1768. Maxwell
Hall features massive twin chimneys and foundation stones of
English chert. Local tradition holds that in the War of 1812, the
British invasion forces took possession of Maxwell Hall during
their march on Washington in August 1814.
