Geocache Description:

Small town cache placed with permission. Please be respectful of the property (Sunday morning isn't a good time for this one).

Pretzel Country:
Welcome to New Berlin, home of the Fighting Pretzels! When do pretzels fight, You might ask? Any time a New Berlin High School (or Junior High School) team takes the field, track, court, etc. Proud we are of our Pretzel history, and we hope you enjoy your visit to Pretzel Country!

Personal History:
The first of what we hope will be several New Berlin area caches, this place has a lot of meaning to our team, Brad's Bane. We met through our youth groups and at camp before ConelyCrew's dad came to be the pastor of United Baptist Church in 1988. From that time until now we have been good friends. You will find the cache in an area where we used to hide Easter eggs for the kiddies each year.

Church History:
When Bates Presbyterian Church was struck by lightning and destroyed by fire on Monday, April 20, 1964, the congregation merged with the First Baptist Church of New Berlin and formed the United Baptist Church in New Berlin (American Baptist Churches, USA). First Baptist Church was formerly located at the northwest corner of Gibson and Jackson streets in New Berlin, which was remodeled into a residence. The property is now owned, and services supported, by Central Baptist Church of Springfield, IL, which calls this building the “West” or “New Berlin” Campus.

Thanks to the New Berlin Area Historical Society (visit link) for some of the historical references.
