The 'Domestic Finishing Mill' stands in a prominent and picturesque location on the River Cart overlooking the Hammils, it is a proud reminder of the town's industrial heritage. It was part of a larger complex known collectively as the 'Anchor Mills'. You will now have walked around most of them. The Mill was built in 1886 by the Clark family, and is made of red brick with a sandstone balustrade. When built the complex filled 9 acres. By 1914 it covered 28 acres and by 1952 it had spread to 51 acres. Work in the Domestic Finishing Mill finished in the 1980s, and lay empty and neglected for twenty years until a regeneration project, funded on a partnership basis, saved the building. It was re-opened by Prince Charles and Camilla in 2005 and now combines business units and apartments.

Inside the Mill there is a central well topped with an unusual glass lantern light. This allowed natural light in, and provided space for the drive belts from the engine on the ground floor to reach the machines on the upper floors. The Mill was one of the first buildings in Paisley to have electric lights. The doors have security entry but you can have a peek.

The restoration of the Footbridge was another part of the regeneration project. The Category B listed bridge had fallen into a state of disrepair. 2008 saw the completion of the restoration of the bridge, it was then replaced a few metres further up river and one metre higher to meet flood prevention requirements. The cache is hidden at the original location of the bridge.

Please replace exactly as found.
