CITO the Walls (of Jericho) Cache In Trash Out® Event

This cache has been archived.

The Seanachai: Greetings from Geocaching.com,

As part of my duties, I am archiving this cache as it has been over 30 days since the event occurred. From the Geocaching.com listing guidelines regarding event caches:

"After the event has passed, the event cache should be archived by the organizer within four weeks."

Thank you for taking the time to create and host this event, but it is time for the listing to be archived.

Geocache Description:

CITO event in 2 states! Meet at Tennessee Trailhead at 9:00am Central. We will gather trash at both trailheads (2.3 miles to the Alabama trailhead). A gorgeous box canyon and waterfalls await the ones who want to hike the entire 7-mile loop, but the official event & smiley are at the trailheads.

The Walls of Jericho is very beautiful & unique wilderness area that protects the headwaters of the Paint Rock River. Closed to the public for many decades, it has been open to the public for hiking and recreation since 2006, thanks to Nature Conservancy, Forever Wild Alabama and Tennessee Bear Hollow Wildlife Management Area.

The Walls of Jericho site is designated as a Tennessee State Natural Area. The entire 8,900-acre area is open for public access. There are two trailheads, one in Tennessee, where we will meet, and one 2.3 miles south, in Alabama. The loop hike down to the waterfalls and into the ravine (where the D3.5/T4.5 cache GCVG0G lives) is approximately 7 miles, with over 1000' elevation change. You do NOT have to hike the whole loop to earn this smiley! We will meet at 9am and focus on cleaning up the trailhead areas.

If you choose to do the loop hike, plan on at least 6 hours round-trip and bring snacks, gloves, suitable hiking shoes and equipment and please take along a couple more trash bags. There are several caches, including an earthcache, along the loop.

More information on the hike can be found here: (visit link)

We will provide water bottles, a few trackables and encouragement! We have done this loop hike several times; always memorable!

In the event of bad weather, we will cancel or reschedule this event. With or without rain, sturdy walking shoes are a good idea. There are numerous caches along the trails. If you do choose to hike down to the Wall, be prepared to get your feet wet; two stream crossings are necessary.
