Geocache Description:

Last chance for Beaver lake is a 2 stage cache taking you on an exploring trip around Beaver Lake County Park.

It replaces two previous caches that have disappeared over the years, "Leave It to Beaver" and "Beaver Lake County Park"

Beaver Lake County Park

This is a beautiful little park next to Beaver lake. You do not need to cross the road for the cache, but there is a tunnel under the road so you can explore the beach if you want. Great picnic facilities.

Your trail will be a little over 1/2 mile by the time you get back to the parking lot. There may be a little bush wacking, 15 or 20 yards to the final cache location. Other wise the trails are pretty good and will lead you to the cache.

Beaver Lake County Park is located in the southwest part of Steele County near the community of Ellendale. The Park is one-half mile north of State Highway 30 on County Road 28. Map to Beaver Lake County Park.

Beaver Lake Park History

Beaver Lake Park was purchased from local residents Noel and Ardis Thompson in two parcels in 1968 and 1972. A swimming beach and a park area with play equipment were developed in the early years and in 1978 a beach house and two picnic pavilions were added for park users. Through the years, with the help of the Ellendale/Geneva Sportsmens Club, a boat dock, fishing pier, horseshoe pits, and volleyball courts were added. In 1999, the Steele County Parks and Recreation Department received an Outdoor Recreation Grant from the State of Minnesota to update and enhance the Park. The swimming beach area was renovated and a handicap accessibility path was installed. A new play area and equipment were installed along with hiking trails through the backwoods area of the park. Also, a large portion of the parking lot was removed and a natural grassland was seeded by the Steele County Chapter of Minnesota Pheasants.
