Geocache Description:

Cache is located off of I-8 near Jacumba, on top of Round Mountain.

This stash is located on top of Round Mountain, just south of I-8 as you approach Jacumba. It looks like an old volcano. it is a rough hike to the top, with some bushwacking required as there are no trails. Also, several barbed-wire fences need to be crossed. This is not a cache for the physically challenged, but it is easily accomplished by any experienced hiker.

Take the Jacumba exit and turn right just before the gas station. The road quickly turns to dirt (well graded). You can see the mountain dead ahead. Proceed down the road- we parked at a turn-off at N32.38.358'/W116.10.478'. Cross the fence and meander towards the south end of the mountain. Lots of brush, cactus and thorns, but the cow traces make a decent trail. It is possible to cross the stream at N32.38.268'/W116.10.728'. Bushwack up the south slope. It took us 25 minutes to get to the top from the car, and I'm an older guy. Your mileage may vary. The view is great! Bring water! The cache is a flat, clear Tupperware container (7"X11") with a green lid. Inside are:

  • A log book
  • 2 AA batteries
  • A box of TicTacs
  • A box of Altoids
  • A cuyalume light stick
  • A fishing lure
  • A lighter
  • A million dollar bill
  • A large Kennedy medallion from the Secret Canyon cache
  • A Sony minidisk from the Secret Canyon cache
