Geocache Description:

"The Glebe" was the residence of the Rev. Algernon Gifford , the Anglican clergyman since 1862.

Mr. Gifford arrived in Lyttelton, by the ship “Zelandia,” having been appointed incumbent of Oamaru by the commissioner in England for the diocese of Christchurch, in New Zealand. In the early days of settlement in
Oamaru, Mr. Gifford did a great deal of laborious work and was for a large portion of his time engaged in travelling from settlement to settlement throughout North Otago. He retired as vicar around 1889 and continued to live in retirement at the Glebe until until he died 20 years later in 1909. "The Glebe" is now the home of a local Oamaru family.

Whilst the trees in front of the residence now block the view from the cache site, a small glipse of this historic
homestead can be seen a few hundred metres further up Parsons Rd.

The cache is a magnetic eclipse container hidden above ground level. Bring your own pen.
