It makes you wonder what life was like living here a hundred years ago, the hopes, the dreams of the future. If the walls could only talk.
This is just another stop in our series of historical locations around the Black Hills. This old "Rock House" is located about a mile south of Saint Onge SD along the old cutoff road. It was built in the early 1880's, and served for a short time as the local post office in 1885, until a new building was built in town around 1902. This was rustic living at its finest. Telephone service in this area was brought in around 1906, however this town didn't even get electricity or natural gas until 1927.
Yes, this cache is a micro. The purpose of this cache is simply to showcase the old historic rock house. There used to be another cache nearby that has since been archived. The cache is not in the building or on any private property. Bring your own writing stick as there isn't one in the cache. You may need a TOTT to extract the cache from it's hiding place. Please return the cache exactly as found, making sure it remains well-hidden.
As with all of our caches, enjoy the area, be safe and have fun.
(By the way... this is our 100th hide. Not that we're keeping track or anything)
