Geocache Description:

This is our first cache placement, and we wanted to make it one that would be fun to do with kids. There is easy access parking, and it is also along a popular bike route south of Philomath.

This area was settled in the early 1850s, and the Independent School was one of the original school districts. Around 1918 the Seehafer family donated land for the school building. In 1952 the school closed, and pupils were moved to Inavale School. In the late 1950s the building and land were deeded to the Independent Community Club by the Seehafers. The Independent Community Club (ICC) has operated as a non-profit community center since the Independent School closed in 1958. The ICC board and members are committed to keeping the ICC a focal point of the community, with the sole purpose of bringing the community together for the benefit of all. For more information on the ICC, go to www.independentcommunityclub.org. This cache was placed with the permission of the ICC. Because the cache is near a well-traveled intersection, take care to not be seen by muggles when logging your find. Also, please be respectful of the ICC property and do not attempt the cache if you see a special event taking place at the site.
