Geocache Description:

While the 1961 celebration of the state of Kansas 100th years of statehood was quite the celebration. The 150th was a year of not much celebration. The State of Kansas left the 15th celebration up to its inhabitants of the state.

Back then in 1961 their was a pageant on West Kellogg between 119th and 135th streets, inside the building where Paramount Antique Mall is now, there were booths where you could buy centennial memorabilia. Back then all over the state cit, citys had a parade and men grew beards, and mustaches. Women had old-time gowns and bonnets. As we know their was no hoopla this time for the sesquicentennial. Yet this place still exists and we pass it by just wondering what went on here. The old grandstands still exist due to a ranchers desire to own the area. The only thing I can tell you that I have is a old coin collected by my grandfather on his graduation from East High School in 1961. Hope you enjoy the bit about history.
