This cache is on the ancient Forest boundary of the 1240 Perambulation, but was not mentioned explicitly in the return. It has been placed as a waymark between Aliam Ysfother (North Hessary Tor) and Mystor (Great Mis Tor). More details about the Perambulation can be found on the cache page for the Dartmoor Forest Bonus. On the front page of the logbook is an adjustment to be made to the Bonus co-ordinates, which you will need to find the Bonus.
The name “Rundlestone” suggests that here once stood an ancient menhir or boundary stone. It was believed to be a boundary stone of the Forest, but has never been mentioned in any of the surveys. The stone stood an impressive seven feet tall, and was marked on old maps as the “Great Stone call’d Roundle”. It was destroyed over 100 years ago, when a wall was being built.
If doing this cache as a standalone, suggested parking is just off the B3357 at Rundlestone (waypoint below). Follow the hard track to the cache site.
The next point on the Perambulation is Mystor. Continue up the track until it ends on the open moor. Follow the wall then fence on your right until you reach the military marker post. From there head directly to the tor.
