Geocache Description:

Platform 2

Opawa Railway Station

The cache is located at the exact point of where Opawa Railway Station once stood. Cache is a small italian mints tin.

PLEASE BRING OWN PEN

Nothing is left of the station or platform.

Little information can be found about the history of Opawa station, but it is presumed it was the next station for passengers to board heading to the city after Woolston (formally Hillsborough) station.

The station was opened on 30th of April 1864 and was officially closed on 30th April 1972 after 108 years of service.

I know this isn't the nicest location - there sometimes tends to be a bit of rubbish. This place once boasted two station buildings and many stood here on cold mornings waiting for their train to work. The soldiers of World War II also kissed their wives goodbye here and set off to their deployment. Please remember this place for what it was - not what society has let it become.

Record the 3 digit number on the bag of the log book - they may be helpful in finding the final mystery cache!
