Geocache Description:

This can be a very busy intersection so safety & stealth are required to retrieve this nano. “Straight on for Culburra, Lake Wollumboola, Crookhaven and Orient Point” “Keep on right for Boorawine, Callala, Currarong and Jervis Bay”

In 1915 Henry Halloran was a land developer, surveyor & town planner when he purchased the land here and to the east & south. By 1916 he had subdivided the land in these villages into lots with the idea that they would become suburbs of his planned City of St Vincent. One of the first buildings he built was Culburra Guest House near Penguin Head in the early 1920’s, promoting it as a holiday destination. By the 1950’s the guest house had lost its appeal and was moved in 10 sections to Nowra where in now stands as M & M’s Guest House. There have been 2 known Arch Gates. The first and most elaborate was built by Halloran by 1926 with an actual gate that you had to open & close. The second was built in 1949 as an arch only with a cattle grid and was demolished in 1958 as it was considered a traffic hazard.
The nearby properties known as Archgate, Lords, Lapland & Reganville are still owned by the Halloran Family. BYO pen. CONGRATULATIONS ROCK-HOPPER *FIRST TO FIND*
