Located near the Old Peale Bridge
What would normally be a quick Cache and Dash located a few miles from the nearest hard road. Once you are at Ground Zero the cache should be easy to find an reach. I almost feel bad placing a cache this far in the woods in such a stereo typical location. You should be able to reach it from a standing position while standing on the road. No need to do anything risky. The hard part will be getting to ground zero. Best access is from the North through the town of Grassflats. The road to the South (via Moshannon) should only be attempted by High Riding 4X4 vehicles, drivers with off road experience. This is not a road for beginners after this point.
This area is also located near the start of the Annual Red Moshannon down river race. The race is held every spring and runs from this location, 7 miles to the Route 53 Bridge. The creek has some technical rapids and can be run by intermediate paddlers.
While in the area, continue along the road to the South to come to the Snow Shoe Rails to Trails. Along this trail there are a few more excellent caches at the Peale Tunnel and at the Viaduct Bridge. Also near by on the North Side of the creek is Martha Renfew's Cache, placed near an old abandoned cemetery.
Enjoy a day in the woods in one of my favorite areas, watch out for 4 Wheelers as this is a common area for them.
**Safety Note** There is limited, if any, cell phone reception in this area. Do not expect them to work. Use common sense while driving these back roads and make sure you let someone know where you will be going. If you find yourself in need of help, you just may not be able to call for it. Stay safe!
