Geocache Description:

A decent sized tupperware like container hidden near Gavilan College's little chapel.

Resting in the foothills of the Gavilan College campus is the San Felipe Community Church. The once-bustling chapel, originally located in Hollister, was almost forgotten except by the spiders in the windows that served as its guardians. Not many students know that Gavilan has a chapel.

It has served as a popular site for weddings for the past few decades, although the chapel is small. (My sister got married there in the summer time, and let me tell you it isn't air-conditioned either!!)

The chapel was built in 1893 and located at Dunneville Corners in Hollister. For decades it stood abandoned and vacant before Gavilan's first president, Ralph Schroder, took an interest in it. He purchased it from the family of Pierre Angot with help from Native Daughters of the Golden West, an historical preservation group.

Between 1972 and 1975 Gavilan College carpentry students took it apart, board by board, under former carpentry instructor Hal Dromensk.

It has been refurnished and it still lies there behind the school. its door is locked until it needed. The church may have been abandoned at one time, but now it's a part of the future for happy couples.

Above totally lifted from a Gavilan Press article dated 12/3/2007 by Joseph Sullivan.

If there is a wedding going on at the chapel, please put on your tux or evening gown prior to finding this cache!
