Geocache Description:

Merkland Local Nature Reserve, in east Kirkintilloch, was formed on the former site of Meiklehill Colliery it is a haven for wildlife and a popular spot for people looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the town. Its flora, fauna and wildlife habitats offer local people and the wider community as a place for conservation, recreation and education
There is a conservation group of volunteer who meet once a month on a Saturday, to take part in a variety of tasks such as tree felling, path and fence maintenance, litter picking and wildlife surveys. Watch out for events such as bird box making were you can have your own box in the reserve also late night bat walks are fun for all ages.

The reserve can be entered by foot from various points of access in Rosebank and Langmuir Estate, the main entrance with car park facilities is situate on Merkland Drive N55 56.421 W004 07.721
