This cache replaces the one I had here before-Tonquin Bridge Caper. The new bridge is now open and this cache should be fairly easy for experienced geocachers.
The Tonquin bridge was closed for about four years and then it was another year before the new bridge construction was complete.
Park off the bridge to the north and it is a short easy walk to the cache. There is no need to step off the bridge.
Come and see the newest bridge in Ocean Shores !
The name Tonquin originated with the name of an American merchant ship involved with the Maritime Fur Trade of the early 19th Century. The ship was used by John Jacob Astor's Pacific Fur Company to establish fur trading outposts on the Northwest Coast of North America, including Fort Astoria at the mouth of the Columbia River. The 290-ton bark was destroyed and sunk at Clayoquot Sound a few weeks after leaving the Columbia River after a dispute with Tla-o-qui-aht, the indigenous people of the sound.
