This regular-sized black ABS pipe container is located on the Summit of Midnight Peak at an elevation of about 2,334 meters. Via Baldy Pass, travel to this geocache will require covering a round trip distance of at least 11 kilometers and an elevation gain of 900 meters. Note that the pink ammo can on the summit is not the geocache, it is the summit register.
Midnight Peak:
The most defined scramble route up Midnight Peak follows up the NE Ridge from Baldy Pass. Park at the Baldy Pass parking lot and hike up the popular and well defined trail to Baldy Pass. From here, continue up the ridge and you will find an excellent trail that heads steeply up through the trees. Eventually the trail will boot you out onto the rocky NE ridge and you will have to scramble on easy but steep and blocky terrain up to the summit.
Enjoy the fantastic views, find the cache then contemplate your next move. You can descend back down the NE ridge but keep in mind that it hosts fairly steep and loose rock. Another option is to descend the west ridge, which heads down more gradually before dipping off into the trees - this is a good option for cutting off some distance back towards the car! If you have more energy in the tank, consider scrambling SE to Midday Peak and possibly beyond. Midnight is an awesome little peak that's now a very popular scramble. Expect to have plenty of company on the trail if you come on a weekend. Have fun!
