Geocache Description:

Easy cache at Monkstown Church

The Board of First Fruits was established in 1711 by Anne, Queen of Great Britain to improve the state of churches and glebe houses of the state church. This was funded by tithes. The problem however was that the state church was the Church of Ireland and the majority of the population were Catholic. Thus the Catholics were being taxed to pay for improvements on Church of Ireland churches. This led to the 'tithe war' which had some particularly violent incidents from 1800 to about 1836. The tithing system was not completely removed until 1869.
In 1825, at the height of the tithe war, the architect John Semple of the Board of First Fruits was commissioned to rebuild the church in front of you.
Nearby you can also see the Monkstown Catholic Church.

Please take care getting and replacing the cache. It's very muggaleable! But I'd rather not have to replace it with a smaller container.
